NBC’s Fashion Star: Project Runway Rip-Off

by Miss A on January 26, 2012

I kinda feel bad for NBC. They used to be the biggest network on TV with Seinfeld and Friends, and now even their most hyped and critically/Miss A-loved shows like 30 Rock and Parks and Rec are losing to their rivals in the same time zone (such as other Miss A favorite The Big Bang Theory). It’s just not a fun time to be a TV executive at NBC I think.

That being said, have you seen some of the crap they’ve decided to air lately? I mean seriously, some of these TV shows make me scrunch up my face (which I try to avoid- wrinkles) and question the intelligence of the person who thought it would be a good idea to air such gems as “The Playboy Club”. Why don’t they just get a group of people in the age brackets that they’re targeting- like my very coveted adults 18-35- and ask us if we’d watch the show before spending all kinds of money airing it and in publicity? There are just some things I don’t understand.

What I also don’t understand is how the good people at NBC are now airing a show called “Fashion Star“… Which looks to be a complete and blatant rip off of Project Runway. They have fashion designers that they’ve plucked from what I’m sure they deem to be obscurity and then they provide them with fashion mentors (who in this case are the questionable Jessica Simpson and Nicole Richie… Seriously?) and pit them against each other in contests to see who’s the best designer. Do you see a difference? I don’t.

And now let’s talk about the judges. Jessica Simpson? Sure, she’s behind a billion dollar retail business (still blows my mind, but all the power to her) but is she really qualified to judge fashion? She has stylists who dress her and even then she’s questionable, at best, with those outfits. Nicole Richie? I suppose I can see where this is coming from- she does have the House of Harlow line of jewlery- but again, she’s known for having been famously styled by Rachel Zoe and not actually doing anything herself!

Think this might be next in line for the NBC axe (but then again, it’s reality TV and those beasts have minds of their own- who’d have thought something like 8 singing shows would all be able to exist?)

A Decade

by Miss A on January 25, 2012

A decade ago…

  • Pierce Brosnan was still James Bond (Die Another Day released)
  • My Big Fat Greek Wedding was released
  • Kelly Clarkson won American Idol
  • Whoopi Goldberg hosted the Oscars
  • Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, dies

and perhaps most importantly…

  • I began a relationship with Mr. Roccapuccia- who has grown into not only my husband, but also my best friend. It’s been a great decade, topped off by getting married 4 years ago and will be capped off in true big decade style with the start of a family of our own.

Here’s to Mr. Roccapuccia for putting up with me and loving me for 10 years… And to many more decades to come.

xoxo

The Thrill of the Hunt: Why I Shop

January 25, 2012

I recently had a conversation with someone about why certain people love to shop whereas other people despise it. Quite honestly, I just don’t understand why some people hate it- it’s beyond my realm of understanding as I’ve been a lover of shopping for as long as I can remember. I remember moving out of [...]

A few days ago, I picked up this package from the mail that I had almost forgotten about ordering… My package from Etsy seller PomLove (Picture by Roccapuccia) I had been browsing around on Pinterest for other ideas for the baby room and decided that this baby would definitely need some decorative yet manly colored [...]

Best Red Carpet Looks: People’s Choice and Critics’ Choice

January 15, 2012

Ah, friends, it’s my favorite time of the year… Awards season! While celebrities call it “don’t eat, exercise like a lunatic and throw up anything you have to ingest to stay alive” time, I call it “mock those with bad stylists, laugh at stupid acceptance speeches and look at beautiful clothes walking down a red [...]

Birthday Idea

January 14, 2012

Yesterday was my friend Lisa’s 30th Birthday. We laughed about the irony of turning 30 on Friday the 13th and she said she didn’t want anything to happen, but what kind of friend would I be if I did nothing for such an occasion? I wanted to get her something slightly ridiculous to honor the [...]

Frugal Friday: Canadian Coupon Sites

January 13, 2012

Ah, Canada. We’re super good at some things (hockey) and super crappy at others (cell phone plans and couponing off the top of my head today) It is super hard to find sites which cater to Canadians, so I thought I would share the ones that I’ve come across recently for all my Canadian readers. Baby Nursery: DIY Striped Pattern Wall Painting

January 11, 2012

When I found out that the baby was going to be a boy, I was a little concerned as I’d been more “prepared’ for having a girl. Let’s face it, little baby girl outfits and colors and decorations are just so cute. I’d started collecting pictures of little girl decor ideas on Pinterest and oh, [...]
